Fast-food workers in Peoria staged walk-outs for the second time this year to push restaurant chains to pay higher wages. Employees at McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s also were striking for the right to form a union without retaliation or unfair labor practices. Delilah Hill works at the Burger King on University. She says a boost in pay would give employees a higher standard of living:
“Any more money would be great, because $8.25 you can’t live off that, $8.25 is two gallons of milk if you look at it. There are a lot of mother’s out here struggling and there are fathers out here to, but we can’t move up in life off change,” Hill says.
Fast-food workers from 100-cities nationwide also participated in the walk-outs. This follows a series of strikes that began last November in New York City, then spread to other cities over the summer.
