Peoria District 150 is holding a Parent University tonight at Von Steuben Middle School from 530 to 8. The forum will include a question-and-answer session from Superintendent Grenita Lathan. Parents can then choose different break-out sessions related to academics, parenting, and health. York Powers is the district family coordinator. He says the goal of the event is to give parents more resources to help students succeed:
“It’s not just telling a parent hey call so-and-so at this organization and they’ll be able to give you what you need. It creates that relationship and trust from parent to an organization whether it be a school district employee, or whether it be a social service agency or a company here in Peoria,” Powers says.
The Parent University events are also held at different schools across the district. Powers says that makes it easier for parents to meet with district staff and community groups at the different sessions.
