Washington city officials are working with IDOT to clear the rubble out of the streets after Sundays E-F-4 tornado. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports their trying to make access safer and easier:
Residents who live in the hardest hit parts of Washington are being allowed to returned to their homes this morning through five o’clock this evening. Washington Police Chief Don Volk says East and West Traffic on Business Route 24 is running in the South lanes, one in each direction in.
“Most of this north lane area is going to be used for the attorney general, for the command post who’s going to try to start vetting some of our contractors, and this will be used also for staging area for contractors. So they’ll have quicker access to these areas when that time comes and we’re ready for that.
Volk say they’re also using the old park district administration building and parking lot for insurance companies to meet with policy holders. That’s in the 800 block of Lincoln Street. Ameren Officials are still working to restore power. The estimate most utilities should be restored by tonight.
