Tatyana McFadden was back in class at the University of Illinois the day after her victory in the women’s wheelchair division of the Chicago Marathon. But the 24-year old Paralympian has her sights on the New York Marathon November 3rd. McFadden says the New York route poses a different challenge than the Chicago marathon.
You know, it’s different from the Chicago Marathon, because it’s not as flat, there’s lots of climbing, there’s lots of downhill. So, I just have to play smart, and review my own strengths and weaknesses, and push as fast I can and as hard as I can, and really just push my own race.
Despite the differences, McFadden says she hopes to win, if not finish, in the top three of the New York Marathon. She set a new record in the Chicago Marathon women’s wheelchair division. It took her one hour, 42 and a half minutes. McFadden won the Boston and London Marathons earlier this year.
