The Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center has received national accreditation for its health services. The National Commission on Correctional Health Care recognized the facility at its meeting last month. Brian Brown is the Center’s Superintendent. He says the accreditation measures the detention center’s entire operations:
“From your policies and procedures, to staff training and how kids access quality of care. And that covers mental health, medical and dental. So it covers a whole range of your operation. They also look at your day-to-day operation and see the quality of care your providing them outside of those parameters,” Brown says.
Brown says this is the first accreditation for the Juvenile Detention Center. He says the facility must submit annual paperwork and pass an on-site inspection every three years to maintain the designation. Brown says the Peoria County facility holds about 46 juveniles each day. He says more than 700 juveniles pass through the center each year.
