The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood. The Peoria area organization is asking for platelet and blood donors of all types.
Blood donations to the Red Cross in June were down 10 percent nationwide. July blood drive numbers are also down.
The summer months are often challenging for Red Cross blood donations. Summer schedules, vacations and holidays like the Fourth of July change the schedule of many regular donors.
People with O-negative, B-negative and A-negative blood types are especially encouraged to donate. The Red Cross is hosting blood drives for the rest of the month in Peoria, Tazewell, McLean, Woodford, Marshall, and Putnam counties.
