People in the greater Peoria region have an additional tool to gain health and human service information. The Heart of Illinois United Way and Advanced Medical Transport are partnering to provide a new 2-1-1 information referral service. The service is designed to help link people to urgent needs like shelter housing, food and non-emergency medical care.
It’s part of the calling system that includes 9-1-1 and 4-1-1.
The Heart of Illinois 2-1-1 is available 24-hours a day with trained referral specialists.
The 2-1-1 call center staff are able to transfer calls in case of emergency. The 9-1-1 call center staff has also been cross-trained to provide 2-1-1 assistance. Both call centers operate out of AMT. The 2-1-1 service area include Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Marshall, Stark and Putnam counties.
The service is also available online at www.211hoi.org.
