U.S. Transportation Secretary and Peoria- native Ray LaHood could get his name on a stretch of Interstate 74 within the city.
Peoria State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth introduced legislation to grant the honor to LaHood, who is finishing up his four and a half years as transportation secretary.
The roughly six-mile stretch of highway from the Murray Baker Bridge to the Sterling Avenue exit would be dubbed the Ray LaHood Highway under the measure. That section of I-74 was rebuilt under a project LaHood pushed for while serving in Congress.
In a statement, Gordon-Booth says LaHood is a statesman, a strong advocate, and a dedicated leader for Peoria.
