The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office held its annual memorial service for fallen officers.  Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:

The ceremony remembered four officers killed in the line of duty, including Deputy James Mulay ten years ago.  Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy says the ceremony also highlights the latest challenges for area law enforcement:

“This isn’t an easy job anymore.  This is a very tough job, and the things we’re going through right now in this area with the gangs and with some of the other problems we’ve had, it’s a tough job.  And today allows us to recognize some of the people who put their lives on the line everyday along with those who have given the ultimate sacrifice,” McCoy says.

The ceremony also honored a K-9 Deputy killed in 2006.  The service was held in conjunction with National Police Week.  Sheriff’s Office employees were also recognized for their service at a banquet following the ceremony.

The Peoria Police Department is honoring its fallen officers at a memorial service Wednesday.
