Peoria County hopes to open its new nursing home facility in late June or early July. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports that’s about a month later than originally planned:
Construction on the new Heddington Oaks facility is complete, and the facility is now in the inspection phase from the state. But an architectural error with the building’s heating, ventilation and air condition system means more work needed to be done. County Assistant Administrator Scott Sorrel says that despite the error, the County will still meet a critical deadline later this year:
“To either be out of Bel-Wood or have Bel-Wood sprinklered for fire protection by a date certain, And we’re still within a good margin of being able to achieve that goal, and obviously we’re not going to add sprinklers to Bel-Wood because we build Heddington Oaks, that’s one of the decision points that the County board made three, four years ago,” Sorrel says.
Sorrel says the architect will reimburse the county up to $60,000 for the error. The County Board also approved daily private pay room rates for new residents at Heddington oaks. But current Bel-Wood residents transferring to the new facility will get grandfathered in at a lower rate.
