$100,000 fireworks display returning to Peoria

The Red, White and BOOM celebration is coming back to Peoria for the 27th year. The cities of Peoria and East Peoria as well as UnityPoint Health-Methodist come together with other area organizations to host the 100-thousand dollar firework production. East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus says the event is a signal of unity between the two communities:

"Since then, of course, its not just unity between our community, but it's the whole unity with the entire region - all the people it draws in. It gives me great satisfaction to see families down there at the riverfront, both sides, you can hear what's going on," Mingus says.

The Red, White and BOOM event is one of the largest firework displays in Illinois. It is also one of the main summer attractions for the region. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 9:30 July Fourth. Artists such as 38 Special and Clayton Anderson will also perform throughout the week.

Peoria's Schedule of events:

Wednesday, July 3rd:
The Celebration begins Wednesday, July 3rd, with good old fashioned Midwestern charm and down home country music. Southern Indiana's Clayton Anderson, a rising star who's opened for Kenney Chesney and Tim McGraw, will play on "The Landing" stage.

Thursday, July 4th:
Fireworks start at 9:30pm.

Friday, July 5th:
.38 Special will rock the riverfront Friday, July 5th. Their timeless hits remain a staple on radio stations today. The Band will belt out arena pop smashes "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up In You" from the stage in Festival Park.

Saturday, July 6th:
The live concert three-play concludes with Bella Cain on Saturday, July 6th. They're a hot, young, high energy top 40 country band playing the hottest music on the radio today... and some old favorites to round it all out.
