Paul Ryan talks budget, party priorities in Washington, IL

U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan says the budget passed this week by the Republican-controlled House is vital to the nation’s financial stability.  He made his comments at a fundraiser for Congressman Aaron Schock at Five Points Washington.  The former vice-presidential candidate says the House spending plan offers solutions to keep the country’s financial house in order:

“We know that there are proven ideas that work.  It’s respect the taxpayer, it’s reform government, it’s cut wasteful spending, it’s reform these incredibly-important entitlement programs that we’ve organized our lives around before they go bankrupt,” Ryan says.

Ryan’s budget calls for cuts in some safety-net programs and would turn Medicare into a voucher-like system for those born after 1959. 17th District Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos voted against Ryan’s budget.  She says the Budget would be unfair to seniors:

“The problem is the voucher would not keep pace with increases in health costs,” Bustos says.

Next the Democratically-controlled Senate votes on its
spending plan.
