Peoria Police arrest husband for Denise Leuthold's murder

The Peoria Police Department arrested Nathan Leuthold Wednesday morning for the murder of his wife, Denise Leuthold on February 14. Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard says  his department arrested the 37 year-old Leuthold in Pekin during a traffic stop they initiated. He says people have shared information that’s helped his department meet the probable cause standard to make Leuthold’s arrest. But Settingsgaard says detectives are still actively following-up on details.

“I would invite the public to continue to call. Particularly now knowing that the husband has been taken into custody. There may be someone out there who knows something about this case, who knows something about the victim or the husband or some circumstance that maybe we are not aware of yet, and we invite you to call us and let us know what you know,” Settingsgaard said.

The chief says they can not talk about motive at this point, and they are not looking for anybody else related to the case. 39 year-old Denise Leuthold was shot to death in the home of her parents where the couple had resided since returning from missionary work in Lithuania. They have three children roughly between ages eight and 12.
