Bradley University is closing its current season with a production of "Sense and Sensibility" -- an adaptation of the classic novelby Jane Austen. We're talking with director Dan Matisa; and with Susan Falk, who plays Elinor.
Like the novel, the play draws contrasts between the two protagonists, sisters Elinor and Marianne, who epitomize the qualities of "sense" and "sensibility." This adaptation also uses a rotating group of actors in the role of "Gossips," who function somewhat like a Greek chorus, conveying exposition and providing atmospheric flavor. Both Falk and Matisa think that the themes of the story -- of family, home, and female empowerment -- continue to resolnate two centuries after the novel was written.
"Sense and Sensibility" runs Thursday, April 25th, through Sunday, May 5th, at the Hartmann Center for the Performing Arts on the Bradley campus.
