The theme reads “Pysanky and Healing.” The layout includes a portrait photo of featured guest Crystal Pothoff on the right, wearing glasses and a maroon sweater with a pendant necklace. On the left are colorful decorated pysanky eggs. Text notes the show is presented by PNC and includes “Listen Here” with podcast platform icons.

On this week's episode of Out and About, Dr. Mae Gilliland of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois talks with Crystal Potthoff, artist and facilitator of Breaking Free, a community art project centered on the meditative folk art of pysanky.

Participants from both artistic and non-artistic backgrounds learned wax batik techniques on eggshells and transformed their work into mixed‑media paintings that symbolize growth, confidence, and stepping beyond personal boundaries. Breaking Free is on view beginning February 6 through 28 at Artful Journey Gallery, with the exhibition continuing March 2 through April 12 at Five Points Washington.

Mae Gilliland Wright is the host of WCBU's Out & About.
