Indian classical music part of Heartland Festival Orchestra performance

WCBU Out and About podcast promo for “Sitar and Symphony.” A red vertical banner on the left shows the title, while the right side features a portrait of David Commanday. Logos for NPR, PNC, and podcast platforms (Apple, Google, Spotify) appear along the bottom.

On this week's episode of Out and About, Dr. Mae Gilliland of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois talks with David Commanday, conductor of the Heartland Festival Orchestra, about "Sitar and Symphony."

This cross-cultural concert experience takes place Sunday, September 14 at the Venue Chisca Grand Ballroom. It is a unique and immersive program that blends the elegance of Western orchestral tradition with the expressive intricacies of Indian classical music, featuring sitar virtuoso Arjun Verma, tabla master William Rossel, and classical Kathak dancer Chetna Maini.

Mae Gilliland Wright is the host of WCBU's Out & About.
