An East Peoria dentist has been identified as the man who died in a skydiving accident earlier this week in LaSalle County.

According to LaSalle County officials, the coroner's office was called to Skydive Chicago in Ottawa on Monday for a report of a man involved in a skydiving accident. He was identified as 48-year-old Dr. Noel Liu of East Peoria.

Coroner Richard Ploch said an autopsy was conducted Tuesday, but results are still pending with further forensic and toxicology testing required for a final report.

In a post on Liu's Facebook page for the dental practice, colleague Dr. Nazish Jafri confirmed his death and said more information would be shared “in the coming days.”

The incident is still under investigation by the LaSalle County Coroner's Office and the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are also involved in the investigation.
