Hanna City man pleads guilty to 2023 fatal DUI

A Hanna City man pleaded guilty Thursday to a 2023 aggravated DUI case that left a woman dead and her son severely injured in Peoria County.

According to Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos, 45-year old Jeremy Perry pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI related to the car crash in January 2023 that killed 43-year old Miriam Schmid and hospitalized her son with severe injuries.

Hoos said deputies from the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office pursued Perry as he fled in a vehicle on Jan. 15, 2023. At the intersection of Route 150 and Koerner Road, northwest of Peoria, Perry ran a red light and collided with Schmid’s vehicle, leading to a three-car crash.

Hoos said a blood test conducted at the hospital after the crash showed Perry had THC and methamphetamine in his system.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 25.
