The Pekin Country Club is moving forward with new owners.
Shaun Schlosser and his brother are the new owners of the facility. Schlosser said purchasing the club was a five month process, finally concluding last week.
“I mean, to be honest, this is something you kind of dream of, but you never think it could ever really happen to own something like this,” said Schlosser.
Schlosser said the brothers’ combined buying power and a loan from the federal Small Business Administration helped make the purchase possible.
Schlosser and his brother are from Decatur. Their father was a club professional and the kids spent a lot of time on a golf course growing up. Schlosser describes himself as an “avid golfer since birth.”
The previous owners of the club, Pekin Country Club Inc., filed for bankruptcy in 2023. Schlosser said the bankruptcy process is part of what made the sale drag out for five months, but the new owners are now “free and clear.”
“We essentially just bought the assets, we didn’t buy the business,” said Schlosser. “So, yeah, we are all in the clear there.”
The assets include an 18 hole golf course, a restaurant and banquet facility and a pool. Schlosser said he hopes to welcome members who left during the bankruptcy process back to the facility with “open arms.”
He said certain aspects of course and club maintenance had fallen behind in previous years and the Schlossers want to return it to its “former glory.”
“We’re serious about making the Pekin Country Club the best it can possibly be, and we just want to get that out there,” Schlosser said.
Some additional planned changes include opening the restaurant and banquet facilities to the public, as well as opening the golf course for public access on Mondays. Schlosser said the club will also be offering discounted memberships before Memorial Day weekend and a pool-only membership option.
The public access days begin the first week of May.
