Peoria police officers are slated to get raises under the terms of a new 3-year contract approved by the city council Tuesday.

The agreement between the city and Peoria Police Benevolent Association calls for minimum wage increases of 5% this year, with the blended average coming out to 6.8%.

Police would then get a 4% bump in 2026 and 3% in 2027.

The overall pay scale is also being adjusted to address low starting pay and bring Peoria more in line with other comparable cities, according to a memo to the city council.

The new contract also adds demotions as a possible disciplinary measure.

The police union represents 215 employees.
