A weekly spotlight on arts activities in Central Illinois. Out and About is made possible in part by PNC Financial Services and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Savor the acoustics with Peoria's first 'Tuba Christmas' concert

On this week’s Out and About, Dr. Mae Gilliland of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois chats about Peoria's first "Tuba Christmas" concert with event organizer Dan Dietrich.

He shares the inspiration behind this festive gathering, which dates back to a tradition that began in 1974 at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Dietrich hopes this inaugural Peoria event will attract over 50 musicians and a large audience, encouraging participants of all ages and skill levels to dress festively and join the performance. The concert will take place on Dec. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church and is free for the public to attend.

Donations to support Redeemer Lutheran Church as thanks for allowing usage of their church for the event will be taken. Contact Dan Dietrich with questions.

Jody Holtz is WCBU's assistant program and development director, All Things Considered host, as well as the producer of WCBU’s arts and culture podcast Out and About.
