A weekly spotlight on arts activities in Central Illinois. Out and About is made possible in part by PNC Financial Services and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Cherished melodies shine in 'An American Family Christmas'

On this week’s Out and About, Dr. Mae Gilliland of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois speaks with Dr. Joseph Henry, artistic director and conductor of the Peoria Area Civic Chorale, about their beloved annual concert, An American Family Christmas, taking place Dec. 13-15 at Five Points Washington.

Dr. Henry shares insights into curating a repertoire of cherished Christmas music that holds special meaning to him, reflecting on over three decades of leadership in the event. We chat about the vital role of youth involvement and how over the years, students later return as Chorale members.

Dr. Henry also gives us a sneak peek into the whimsical additions of guest performers like Rudolph, Santa, and Mrs. Claus. This is the perfect holiday celebration for the entire family.
