Out and About in Greater Peoria: Santa arrives, East Peoria Parade of Lights and Handel's 'Messiah'

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Nov. 22- Nov. 24, 2024, curated by WCBU's Camryn Cutinello. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Celebrate: Santa is arriving at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie tonight. Celebrate his arrival with holiday caroling with Nitsch Theatre Arts. Then head over to The Holiday Village for a short version of The Nutcracker performed by the Central Illinois Ballet. Enjoy some holiday snacks and hot cocoa while you watch the performance. The festivities start at 5:30 p.m.!

Cheer: The East Peoria Parade of Lights returns on Saturday with 40 floats to celebrate 40 years. Spectators can set up along the approximately two-mile route along East Washington Street and Taylor Street. Help light up the parade route with a free large foam light stick. Those will be distributed before the race or can be picked up at East Peoria Community High School. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m.

Listen: The Morton Community Chorus and Orchestra will perform Handel’s Messiah this Sunday at Grace Church. Listen to musicians from across Central Illinois perform this piece by George Frideric Handel. This concert is free and begins at 2:30 p.m. An organ prelude by Peter Wykert begins at 2:10 p.m.
