Peoria County has a $158 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Peoria County Board approved the budget on a 16-2 vote Thursday night. The final product varied only slightly from county administrator Scott Sorrel's recommended budget, coming under by just $71,408.
Board chairman James Dillon said it was a good process working out the details.
"I know this is later than we've done it. We had moved it up. I think this was a good time. Everybody had enough time to prepare and look it over," he said. "It worked very smoothly this time."
Republicans Nathan Hoerr of District 8 and Brian Elsasser of District 14 were the two no votes. Elsasser said the county has too many administrators.
"My no vote tonight is not against the work you guys did to reduce the headcount. I do appreciate that," he said. "But I do feel we still have some more cutting to do."
The board also unanimously approved a $33.7 million property tax levy. That's an increase of $2.35 million. The county is expecting a 7.5 percent increase in property tax revenue this year buoyed by growing property values.
