Out and About in Greater Peoria: Howl-Zoo-Ween, Illinois Poet Laureate and a fall festival

Trick or Treat: Get your costumes ready, Howl-Zoo-Ween is back this weekend at the Peoria Zoo. Don’t forget your buckets, you’ll be walking an enchanting trail with treats and even more tricks. Howl-Zoo-Ween goes from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available for $8 online or at the Safari Zoo Gift Shop. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the zoo will also host their Fall Festival with pumpkin decorating, games and crafts.

Listen: Calling all poetry lovers! The Illinois Prairie Library District Marcella Schneider Branch is hosting Illinois Poet Laureate Angela Jackson for “Life as a Laureate.” The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with a Meet & Greet. Jackson will speak at noon. Poets can also bring their own work to read. This event is free!

Explore: Blacksmithing demonstrations, folk music, ambulance tours, honey tasting, classic fire equipment, exhibitions and more, the Wheel O’Time Museum’s Fall Festival has something for everyone. The Sunday event goes from 12 to 4 p.m. Admission for adults costs $12 and children costs $5. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.
