The former American Red Cross building at 311 W. John Gwynn Jr. Ave. in Peoriawill become the new home of counseling and prevention services for the Children's Home Association of Illinois.

The Children's Home Association of Illinois is moving prevention and counseling services closer to downtown Peoria.

The nonprofit last month purchased the building at 311 W. John Gwynn Junior Ave. from the American Red Cross for $10, per a special warranty deed filed with the Peoria County Clerk and Recorder's Office.

Katie Cox is Children's Home's chief development officer. She said the location will be easier to access for those who need its services.

"It's located near the CityLink bus hub and a lot of other great community partners that we work very closely with," she said. "We just are really looking forward to expanding our footprint in the heart of downtown."

Prevention services focus on support for caregivers through home visits, community doulas, prenatal classes and other programs. Counseling includes outpatient behavioral health services, a crisis response team, and more.

Cox said the building should open in December or January. The main Children's Home campus is at 2130 N. Knoxville Ave.
