NWS confirms a tornado swept through Morton during Monday's storms

Storm damage in Morton. The National Weather Service in Lincoln says an EF-1 tornado passed through the village during Monday's storms.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln says an EF-1 tornado hit Morton during Monday night's stormy weather.

The tornado started near Pleasant Hill Road and Bloomington Road in East Peoria around 8:36 p.m., continuing along Interstate 74 towards the north side of Morton. An industrial complex was damaged.

Hardwood trees near the high school were snapped as the tornado continued toward the east side of the village. Tornado damage was also documented in rural Tazewell County, north of Mackinaw near Dee Mack Road and the American Legion Post. Siding was ripped from that building.

The twister lifted around 8:54 p.m.

The tornado had a track of over 12 miles, and peak winds of 95 mph, according to the weather service. No injuries were reported.
