Police in Canton say they are investigating a suspicious death.

According to the Canton Police Department, officers and other emergency responders were called to a residence in the 100 block of South First Avenue in Canton around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said a person, whose identify has not yet been released, was found dead in the residence. Fulton County Coroner Austin Rhodes and Canton Police Chief Mike Eveland said the man found was Christopher P. Leyden, 61, of Canton.

An autopsy was conducted Monday, but the cause and manner of death remains under investigation pending further studies.

Canton Police said they are investigating the suspicious death with the Illinois State Police Criminal Investigations, Illinois State Police Crime Scene and the Fulton County Coroners Office.

Canton Police said they plan to release more information in a joint news release with the coroner’s office.

Canton is about 30 miles southwest of Peoria.
