A Manito man is dead after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in rural Tazewell County on Sunday night.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Jacob Smith, 39, crashed on the Manito blacktop around 8:30 p.m. He was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment.

Smith was initially alert but confused, but his condition rapidly deteriorated, Harwood said. He was pronounced dead just before midnight in the operating room.

Harwood said Smith suffered multiple blunt force head and chest injuries and severe hemorhaging that wasn't survivable despite the medical interventions. Toxicology is pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
