Out and About in Greater Peoria: Watermelon Festival, street fair and Father's Day fishing

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of June 14- June 16, 2023, curated by WCBU's Camryn Cutinello. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Eat: Celebrate a favorite summer treat this weekend at the Spring Bay Watermelon Festival in East Peoria. There will be a carnival, live music every night and, of course, fresh watermelon served daily. Friday and Saturday will feature a craft show, and there will be a car show Sunday.

Roam: Head to Pekin on Saturday for the Bicentennial Downtown Street Fair. The day starts with the second annual “Pekin Appreciates It’s Volunteers” community picnic. The fair will feature street performers, a kids' art show, a walking tour of downtown buildings, carnival games and food trucks. This all-day event goes from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Fish: On Sunday, celebrate Father’s Day with a day of fishing at Mackinaw Valley Vineyard. The event goes from 12 to 5 p.m. Bring your own snacks and food for a picnic, the vineyard just asks that you buy your drinks from them. They’ll have coke products and water for the non-drinkers, as well as beer and wine. They will also have snacks available.
