The future is unclear for Peoria firefighter arrested for DUI

A Peoria firefighter was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence.

According to Peoria County Jail records, 22-year-old Caden Davis of Peoria was arrested by Illinois State Police on Sunday and booked into the jail on counts of failure to obey a stop sign, improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Records show Davis was released the same day.

When contacted Tuesday by WCBU, Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger declined to comment on Davis’ current employment status or any potential disciplinary action. However, Sollberger told commercial TV outlets on Monday that Davis remained on the roster, though not in a position where he would operate a department vehicle, and disciplinary action was undecided.

Sollberger also told local news outlets that firefighter union rules do not allow for leave as a result of a DUI arrest.

This is not the first time Davis has received scrutiny for operating a vehicle under the influence. In 2021, Davis was investigated internally by the Bartonville Fire Department for allegations that he operated a fire truck while intoxicated, according to documents WCBU obtained through a FOIA request. He was a volunteer for Bartonville at the time.

According to a Facebook post, Davis had joined the Peoria Fire Department by Dec. 2022.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
