Caterpillar's shares surged on the stock market Monday morning after the company reported the strongest full-year sales in the company's 98-year history.

The Texas-based company brought in $67.1 billion in sales and revenues in 2023, up 13% compared to 2022. The company sold more equipment at higher prices.

Caterpillar made $17.1 billion dollars in the fourth quarter of 2023. That's a three percent increase from 2022.

Profit per share was $5.28 cents, compared to $2.79 in 2022's fourth quarter.

Caterpillar's world headquarters left Peoria in 2018, but the company still employs some 12,000 people in the region. OSF HealthCare has overtaken Caterpillar as the Peoria area's top employer.
