One man is dead and two others are hospitalized after they fled the scene of a burglary early Friday morning.

Peoria Police spokesperson Semone Roth said in a statement the burglary alarm of a local business went off around 2:36 a.m.

Officers responded to the scene in the 7700 block of North Crestline Drive where they found evidence of forced entry, and observed three suspects "attempting to burglarize an adjacent business," said police.

The suspects drove away, and were spotted driving through Tazewell County before crashing on Cruger Road.

One of the suspects was pronounced dead at the scene; the other two were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The cause of death will be released by the Woodford County Coroner's Office.

The incident is being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
