Boil water order for 22 downtown Peoria buildings lifted

A boil water order for 22 downtown residents in downtown Peoria has been lifted following a water main break on Wednesday afternoon.

The water main break flooded the intersection of Liberty Street and SW Adams, which remains closed while crews work to repair damages to the road. Water service for the 22 buildings was impacted.

Terry Mackin from Illinois American Water said the break was repaired Thursday and tests confirmed the water is up to standards.

Anna Kubas, senior manager of external affairs and communications for Illinois American Water, said Thursday that crews will work to restore the road over the next several days. She said they will reopen the road once it is safe.

Motorists are advised to use caution and obey road signs when driving in the area. It is unknown when the intersection will reopen.
