Downtown Peoria intersection remains closed following water main break

An ambulance with its lights on. The text "WCBU Police and Fire" is laid on top of that photo.

A water main break at the intersection of Liberty Street and SW Adams in downtown Peoria has been repaired, but it is unclear when the road will fully open.

Anna Kubas, senior manager of external affairs and communications for Illinois American Water, said crews will work to restore the road over the next several days. She said they will reopen the road once it is safe.

Motorists are advised to use caution and obey road signs when driving in the area. It is unknown when the intersection will reopen.

Kubas said they are still working to restore service in 22 buildings.

After service is restored, there will be a boil water order in place for customers impacted. Kubas said they have been alerted that they will need to bring their water to a rolling boil for five minutes before drinking or cooking with the water.

Water won't need to be boiled for bathing, laundry and other common uses. She said customers will be notified when the boil water order is lifted.

This is an ongoing story.
