The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says a 61-year-old man from Topeka was found dead in a lake near Mapleton just after noon on Monday.
Deputies met concerned family members in the 9900 block of South Reed City Road. Family members told officials they had found the man’s vehicle, but he was missing.
According to a Facebook post, officers found the man’s fishing boat partially sunk. A drone used to search the lake found the man dead in the lake.
Officials are still investigating, but they said there are no “initial signs of foul play.”
The Peoria County Coroner's Office will release the man’s identity at a later time.
