Out & About in Greater Peoria: Oktoberfest, DIY candles and a charity cow auction

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Sept. 15-17, 2023, curated by WCBU's Meagan Ruger-Smith. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Celebrate Oktoberfast: It’s that time of year again for Ompah music, lederhosen and dirndls! The German American Central Society and the Peoria Park District are sponsoring Oktoberfest this weekend. Head to the riverfront tonight from 5 to 11:30 p.m., tomorrow from noon to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a parade, Dachshund Race, Der Bier Lauf 5K and more!

BBQ, live music and a cow auction: Tonight, dust off your boots and get ready to saddle up for an unforgettable night at a Cattle Auction for the Children's Home Association of Illinois. From 6:30 to 10 p.m., enjoy catering from Mission BBQ, a live auction and live music.

Make you own candles for the fall: Looking to get creative this Sunday? Join Farm to Wick at Tres Rojas Winery to learn how to Make Your Own Soy Candle! Plus, you can make your own mini-charcuterie board while you wait for your wax to dry. Enjoy your favorite glass of Tres Rojas wine while you work. The event runs from 1 to 3 p.m.
