Out & About in Greater Peoria: Chicago at Eastlight Theatre, live music and the Armed Forces Day Celebration

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Sept. 8-10, 2023, curated by WCBU's Meagan Ruger-Smith. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

All that jazz: This weekend, see Chicago at Eastlight Theatre. In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap, until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. You won't want to miss this drama filled musical. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow. The Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m.

Enjoy some live music: Itching to hear some live music? Kenny's Westside pub has got your back. Mike Dillon & Punkadelick will be playing from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight. Mike Dillon is an American percussionist, vibraphonist, bandleader and vocalist born in San Antonio, Texas. He is a member of Critters Buggin, Les Claypool’s Fancy Band and Garage A Trois. Spend your Friday evening relaxing while listening to live music.

Celebrate Armed Forces Day: Tomorrow, enjoy one of the final weekends of summer with the Armed Forces Day Celebration! From 4 to 11 p.m. at Heritage Square, there will be food, drinks, live music, raffles and more. All proceeds benefit Freedom Paws Service Dogs. Plus, you'll get to meet some of the service dog companions!
