All after-school activities are canceled at six Peoria schools amid today's shooting violence.

Peoria Public Schools spokesperson Haleemah Na'Allah said activities are canceled at Manual, Peoria, and Richwoods high schools.

Trewyn Middle School, Annie Jo Gordon Community Learning Center and Elise Ford Allen Academy also are canceling after-school events.

Na'Allah said the district is working closely with the Peoria Police Department to ensure student and staff safety.

The Peoria Federation of Teachers took to Facebook on Thursday, calling on on the superintendent to address what happened and what will happen regarding school safety in the days to come.

Earlier in the day, they called on the city to "declare a state of emergency" in response to the shootings that have plagued the city over the past 24 hours.
