Teen will be tried as adult for weekend murder in liquor store parking lot

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

Jared Williams, 17, will be charged as an adult in the shooting death of 21-year-old Mason Loy of Havana over the weekend outside Laramie Liquors.

Loy was shot multiple times on Saturday night in the liquor store's parking lot and pronounced dead at the scene. Peoria County State's Attorney Jodi Hoos said surveillance video shows Williams getting out of a vehicle, approaching Loy, and firing multiple shots at him unprovoked.

Williams was later arrested at an apartment in Normal. Tests showed a gun found in the apartment fired the shell casings recovered from the crime scene, said authorities.

Williams' bond is set at $1.5 million. He will be held at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center due to his age.
