Trustee Mark Gauf resigned last week from the Village of Peoria Heights board of trustees.

A member of the Village of Peoria Heights Board of Trustees has resigned.

Mayor Mike Phelan told WCBU that trustee Mark Gauf submitted his resignation on Friday, Aug. 4, after meeting with the Village Administrator and Police Chief Mark Sutton.

It's not entirely clear what effect this will have on a motion passed last Tuesday night to reverse the village's plans to explore a fire services contract with the city of Peoria. Gauf changed his vote — after previously supporting a contract — to allow the reversal motion to pass.

Procedural questions about the motion's legitimacy mean it is expected to be on the agenda when the board meets again on Aug.15.

Phelan expects the board to pass the motion again.

“Where everything goes from here, we'll just have to see,” he said.

Phelan is looking for a replacement for the vacancy. Whoever he chooses to appoint also will need to be approved by the board of trustees. Phelan said he’s not sure whether he’ll have a candidate to present to the board by the next meeting.

Gauf has not responded to WCBU’s requests for comment.
