Sorensen, LaHood want to shield TACP until replacement unit is assigned to Peoria's 182nd Airlift Wing

U.S. Air National Guard

Peoria's congressional lawmakers want to ensure the United States Air Force won't be able to eliminate specialized positions at the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria until a replacement unit is named.

U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Moline, and U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Dunlap, introduced an amendment to the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act aimed at preserving the Tactical Air Control Parties (TACP) based in Peoria until a new contingency response group is assigned to the base.

The plan to decommission the TACP unit was announced last month. Military officials say fewer airmen are needed for special warfare operations with technological advances.

Sorensen and LaHood also want a study on the costs and consequences of decommissioning TACP units.
