Peoria man will face murder charges after Princeville woman dies from her injuries

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

Peoria County State's Attorney Jodi Hoos says first-degree murder charges will be added for the man suspected in the shooting death of a Princeville woman.

Alexis Boland, 22, was declared brain-dead on Sunday after she was shot multiple times on Friday in Dunlap. Hoos said she was shot in the head and torso.

Walter Artis, 26, fled the scene in his vehicle, Hoos said. He was arrested at a Morton gas station on Friday. A gun was found in his backpack.

He was initially charged with attempted murder, home invasion, and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. He's being held on $2.5 million bond.

Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said Boland and Artis had children together.

Hoos said Artis will appear before a grand jury next month.
