Schools around Illinois subjected to 'swatting' incidents on Wednesday, including in Peoria

The Illinois State Police are investigating a spate of fake threats called into schools across Illinois Wednesday, including in Peoria.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, 21 calls were made against schools. That included Peoria High School, according to a Peoria Public Schools spokesperson.

Law enforcement officials haven't located any threats as a result of these false calls.

Swatting describes illegal calls made about a fake active shooter situation or other dangerous situation. It's unclear how the calls made Wednesday might be related.

The Illinois State Police are investigating.
