Dunlap man sentenced to 4 years in prison on animal torture charge

A gavel rests on a judge's bench in a blurry courtroom. The text "WCBU Courts" sits on top of that photo.

A Dunlap man was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday on an animal torture charge.

Nicholas Prince was arrested last summer after a video showing him beating a dog circulated on social media. The dog survived and was taken in by Peoria County Animal Protective Services.

Prince pleaded guilty to the felony animal torture charge in Peoria County Circuit Court on Thursday. A misdemeanor count of animal cruelty was dropped.

Prince will receive credit off his sentence for 105 days already served in jail.
