One person dead after Pekin motorcycle crash

Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

A person is dead after a motorcycle struck another vehicle in Pekin on Sunday afternoon.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Tuesday identified the victim as 67-year-old Dennis Hilst of Manito.

Pekin police said officers responded to Towerline Road and Veterans Drive just before 12:30 p.m. Officers said the motorcycle was headed northbound on Veterans when the other vehicle entered the roadway from Towerline turning south.

The motorcycle struck the vehicle, and Hilst was ejected. He was flown to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he was later pronounced dead.

Harwood said Hilst died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries, and reportedly was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car was uninjured. The Illinois State Police processed the accident scene. The investigation is ongoing.

The Pekin Police Dept. says the intersection was Towerline and Veterans, not Townline and Veterans.
