Peoria gun buyback rakes in 47 firearms

Peoria Police Dept

A Saturday gun buyback event in Peoria pulled 47 firearms off the streets.

The no questions asked Mother's Day gun buyback program was hosted at four sites around the city.

On Saturday, police said they purchased 18 revolvers, 10 semiautomatic handguns, twelve rifles, one assault rifle, and six shotguns during the buyback event.

Police paid out $100 gift cards for functional handguns and shotguns, $300 for so-called "ghost guns," and $500 for assault rifles.

Guns can also be dropped off in the Peoria Police Department lobby during regular business hours.
