Knox County deputy killed in the line of duty Friday morning

A police car's lights, which are on. The text "WCBU Police and Fire" are laid on top of that photo.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the line-of-duty death of a Knox County Sheriff's Deputy.

The deputy was setting up spike strips on U.S. Route 150 and 150 Ave. in rural Henry County, about an hour northwest of Peoria, when they were struck by the vehicle of a suspect with a gun involved in an incident at a Galesburg gas station around 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The suspect had fled Galesburg police, state police said.

The ISP say the deputy was killed by the suspect's vehicle. Galesburg officers arrested the suspect shortly after their vehicle crashed in a field north of the intersection where the deputy was struck.

The names of the deputy and the suspect aren't being released at this time.

Galesburg City Hall is the collection point for anyone wishing to leave flowers or other items for the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
