Teenager is the victim in Peoria's record-breaking 26th homicide of 2021

Authorities have identified a 15-year-old Peorian as the victim in the city’s record-breaking 26th homicide Friday night.

The latest shooting happened around 7:15 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of North California Avenue. Authorities say Rayton Brock, 15, of Peoria, was hit multiple times. He was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center’s trauma center.

Peoria Police are investigating. No further information is being released at this time. There is no suspect information.

The 26 homicides reported in 2021 appear to set at least a 39-year record, per Uniform Crime Report data from the Illinois State Police dating back to 1982. 23 homicides were reported in the city in the years 2010 and 1989.

25 homicides were recorded in 1993 in Peoria County as a whole, according to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.
