Peoria ADM ethanol plant sold, but employees will remain on the job

Tim Shelley / WCBU

ADM is selling off its South Peoria ethanol production plant to a Texas-based company.

The sale price of the plant wasn't immediately disclosed by ADM. The 150 people working at the Peoria facility will remain on board as the BioUrja Group takes over operations in the coming weeks.

BioUrja produces biofuels, grains, animal feed, and specialty metal alloy pipes. It also owns and operates energy logistics terminals and grain storage facilities.

ADM began making larger moves to divest its ethanol dry mills earlier this year, as the company shifts its focus to other agricultural sectors.

The ethanol plant was the former Hiram Walker whiskey distillery. It was the world's largest such facility at one point. The distillery closed in 1981.
